That’s right, Jesus never drank alcoholic wine. There is not one single verse in the New Testament that says He did and most people that say He did are working off false information. First, wine has 3 meanings in the Bible just like cider does in our culture. In Isaiah 65:8a it says “Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not,”. So new wine is still in the cluster and is not fermented. Grapes can actually be called wine in the Bible. Next look at Jeremiah 40:10 “As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.” They were harvesting wine, so once again it was not fermented.  The two different wines are contrasted in Amos. Amos 2:8 says” And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.” Amos 9:13b says “and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.”

Very often people will refer to the Gospel of John where Jesus turns the water into wine.  As Habakkuk 2:15 says “Woe unto him that giveth his neighbor drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!” it would have been sin for Jesus to have made fermented wine. No, He made new wine, sweet wine, good wine.  Nor did He drink booze at the last supper. Matthew 26:29 Jesus says “But I say unto you that I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine , until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” And contrary to popular belief, the ancients did have many ways to preserve grape juice and even moist grapes.

The disciples were so well known for not drinking hard wine that on the day of Pentecost the scoffers said of them “These men are full of new wine.” Acts 2:13, or in other words these men are drunk on grape juice. Some will say that they had to drink hard wine because the water was undrinkable because the waters were tainted but Jesus asked the woman at the well for water.

With the scriptural evidence you can clearly see that Jesus did not drink wine. Now you can lie about me if you will but don’t lie about the Lord Jesus Christ. For he said “and for every idle word that men shall speak the shall give account thereof in the day of Judgment.”
